Helping Ellen Get Past Redundancy
Career Connect Outplacement made a real difference to Ellen when she was faced with redundancy, helping her identify opportunities to take back control of her career and find work fast.
Ellen (not her real name) worked for seven years as a research assistant at her company. Due to an organisational change, she found herself facing a redundancy and wasn’t sure how to find a way forward. Fortunately, Ellen’s employer was able to provide her with access to the outplacement support of Career Connect, which allowed her to take control of the situation and plan her next steps.
Ellen was referred to Andrew, a professional, dedicated Career Coach who gave her a careers guidance consultation to assess her knowledge, skills and experience and help identify the best career options for her. From that consultation, she was able to create a list of her professional competencies and match them with local job vacancies that interested her. After sending out various applications, Ellen was successful in securing an interview with a local organisation.
Andrew was on-hand throughout the process, providing advice and support, including tailored coaching to help Ellen improve her interview skills and overcome her nerves. As a result Ellen was successful at interview and was offered an executive grade position with the Civil Service in Liverpool. On top of this, with her newfound understanding of the value of her skills and experience, she was also able to successfully negotiate an improved starting salary. Ellen puts this down to the support she received from Career Connect outplacement.
Ellen said: “It was so helpful for me to have access to outplacement support during my notice period. With everything that’s going on in the current climate, I was really worried about being made redundant and not being able to get another job. But Andrew was there for me at every stage and he really helped me to prepare for my interview. I never realised just how much my nerves affected my interview performance before, but his support helped me to overcome them and get the job.”
